Berit Reisel has a degree in psychology from the University of Oslo and has worked as a contract specialist from 1978 to 2015. Her specialty is individual therapy with adolescents and adults. Reisel has also taught at the Department of Psychology at the University of Oslo, as well as five years at the Norwegian National Opera School. From the end of the nineties, she was engaged by “The Chaplanship of NATO”, which then worked to prepare the peace and reconciliation work in the Balkans after the war.

In the period 1986-88, Berit Reisel participated in a weekly live TV program called “Liv og Lyst”. This was one of the first reality programs on NRK where the audience could submit questions about various problems and life crises. In 1989 she published the book: “Gjennom angsten” (Cappelen Forlag) based on the most current
\nthe problem, anxiety. In 2005, Reisel was engaged by the Norwegian Touring Theatre as a consultant for the play “Saman skal vi leva”. The piece was awarded the Hedda Prize for good professional content.<\/p>\n
Berit Reisel has been active in Jewish organizational life and has held positions both nationally and internationally for many decades. In the period 1996-97, she represented the Jewish Community in the so-called Skarpnes Committee, which was to map the liquidation of Jewish property in Norway during the Second World War. The committee was split and Reisel and Bjarte Bruland dissented with a separate report, the minority report. This documentation led to a restitution settlement from the state of NOK 450 million. As a result of this settlement, and on the initiative of the Mosaic faith communities, the HL Center (Center for the Study of the Holocaust and the Position of Religious Minorities in Norway) was established. Reisel was vice chairman and chairman of the board at the center from 2001-2010. During this period, she led the work on the permanent Holocaust exhibition, as well as collecting dozens of eyewitness accounts from both survivors and rescuers. A selection of these was used in the documentary film “Tidsvitner” (Witnesses to Time), which was nominated for the Gullruten award.<\/p>\n
Reisel has also been a member of the parliamentary committee that distributed funds from the restitution fund: “Support for Jewish projects outside Norway’s borders”. She has also served on the board of the memorial park at Hasle in Oslo: “This is a nice place”. Berit Reisel was an advisor to the book project: “A Candle for Grandpa”, a book about children and grief, (UAHC Press. New York), and in 2014 she contributed the chapter “J\u00f8deparagrafen og Grunnloven” to the book “Gud i Grunnloven”
\n(Frekk Forlag). In 2021, she published the book: “Hvor ble det av alt sammen. The looting of the Jews in Norway” (Press Forlag).<\/p>\n
For many years, Reisel has given lectures on both Jewish and Holocaust-related topics at home and abroad, and since 2022 she has been one of the newspaper V\u00e5rt Land’s essay writers. Berit Reisel was invited to Queen Sonja’s 8th birthday party. March event in 2023 as one of 50 Norwegian pioneering women. She has been awarded the Herman Kahan Dialogue Prize and the Jewish National Fund Golden Book Certificate.<\/p>\n
